Each wrist and hand has 27 bones. The wrist comprises of eight small carpal bones firmly bound in two rows of four bones each. These bound bones articulate with the forearm bones called ulna and radius. Five long thin bones of the palm, called metacarpal bones, extend from the carpus to the 4 fingers and thumb. Each finger has three phalange bones, except for the thumb that has just two.Muscles in the forearms flex and extend the fingers and thumb by pulling on long tendons that run through the wrist and hand.
